Project management is becoming an integral skill for many office workers. And it’s one of the top skills that hiring managers are looking for in new hires. Project management might be a skill that you will need to get comfortable with before you can tell your boss that you’re ready to help with it.

If you don’t have a lot of experience in this area, you need to proactively start developing these skills now so that you add value to your department and organization. Following are some ways to begin and tools to use:

  • Join a professional organization. These organizations will give you opportunities to assist with projects and events in a safe environment. Find a mentor that can provide some extra guidance.
  • Volunteer with a corporate charity event or a non-profit. Again, a safe environment with organizations that will be happy to have you on board to help.
  • Improve your communication skills – you need to know how to articulate your ideas when you’re working on projects. To be a better communicator, you have to be a good public speaker — whether you’re addressing one person, a group of people, or a large crowd.
  • Wrike – a work management and collaboration platform used by high-performance teams everywhere. Online project management software to set priorities and align your team to work faster and smarter across your organization. >>Start your FREE trial today!<<
  • OneNote or EverNote. Use ‘Categories’ to associate them with your project. You can save almost anything in these platforms, and they work with nearly every computer, phone, and mobile device out there. Once you capture things, you can search for them again later by keywords, tags, or even printed and handwritten text inside images.
  • Dropbox – a free service that lets you save and access all of your photos, docs, and videos from anywhere. Any file you save here will automatically sync to all of your computers and phones. Dropbox also makes it super easy to share files and folders with others so it’s an awesome tool for collaboration as well.  Just give your team access to the files they need, and the rest of your files are secured. The first 2 GB of space is free, but for most, that’s more than enough to get started.

Stay ahead of the game! Project management skills will help you improve your efficiency, your productivity, and your value to your organization!
