And I thought 2019 was challenging! 2020 showed me it can always get worse.

See my 2019 year-end review here to see benefits of doing a year-end review and how you can do your own year-end review.

But I’m choosing to make the best of it and pivoting as necessary. I hope you are too. I’m afraid those who don’t will get left behind and miss out on great opportunities.

It’s definitely been a challenging year for absolute everyone on earth. In every country. I’m sure not one person was left out. But how you deal with challenges is more important than anything else.

You must learn to improvise, adapt, and overcome your obstacles. You must have the determination to triumph over your setbacks to achieve success. The ability to change and adapt to the environment gives you the power of control.

As I’ve learned in the past, it’s important to have gratitude for all things. Even though it’s hard sometimes, reflecting and journaling have been helpful for me. Thinking and reflecting prepares us better for taking action.

Here’s my year-end review for 2020. It includes both business and personal observations.

Lessons of 2020:

  • I’ve learned so much about using social media for my business this year.
  • I enrolled in a copywriting class and continue to learn that new skill.
  • I’ve learned so much about marketing this year.
  • That it’s normal for your circle to get smaller the more you grow and choose to remove negativity from your life.
  • That even the gurus still struggle and that’s just life.
  • How important it is that we stay adaptable and pivot quickly to change.
  • That I actually like grilled salmon and I’m so happy I can eat it now.
  • What a persimmon tastes like and what a pluot is. I never knew!
  • That my country is more corrupt than I ever imagined and that we’ve forgotten what “Divided we fall” means. πŸ™
  • That basil is good with watermelon. Who knew?
  • That not everyone will want a better life and that they prefer to stay in their comfort zone.
  • That the words we use, whether spoken or written, matter. I knew this already to a certain extent but learned it even more deeply this year.
  • Some people won’t respect you no matter how good you are to them.
  • That people don’t wash their hands properly and not nearly enough.
  • That avocado seeds are edible and are extremely healthy.
  • That some people will never apologize no matter how wrong they were to you.
  • That you’re lucky and blessed if you have even just a few people in your life that you can call true friends.
  • That life is so very precious and goes by so very fast.
  • That the feelings of being nervous and being excited are the same and that telling myself I’m excited rather than nervous will help me achieve more.
  • That taking quick and decisive action is important to be successful.
  • That all beliefs are choices and choices can be changed.
  • That my body has more wisdom that extends far beyond reason and logic and that I should listen to my instant involuntary body reactions. A deeper learning of listening to my intuition.
  • That I’m actually a procrastinator. WHAT?! Hard thing to admit to myself.
  • To act even though I don’t feel ready. That we never feel ready to do the important things we’re meant to do.
  • That we are all salesmen, whether we know it or not.
  • How important it is to deal with difficult people openly and directly and how damaging it is to avoid doing so.
  • An even deeper understanding of the importance of letting past things go, enjoying the present, and dreaming about the future.

When you make a conscious effort to reflect with the purpose of gaining insight into yourself and your life, you will experience a number of benefits.  Remember, there’s only one you and you are full of so much potential! The treasures that are hidden inside you are hoping to be revealed.

Conclusion

I hope that you had a great year even though I’m sure it was challenging in a lot of ways for you as it was for me. And that you can find many things to be grateful for as well. It’s important that we take time to reflect, give thanks, and celebrate the wins no matter how small.

May your holidays be filled with peace, love, and laughter and may the coming year be your best year yet!
