What is a Virtual Assistant (VA) And What Do They Do?

what is a virtual assistant? at www.xtreme-assistant.com

I wanted to address the most common question I get asked since starting my business…

“What is a virtual assistant and what do you do?”

I started my virtual assistant (VA) business as a side gig in 2014 and quit my city corporate job as an executive assistant in 2018. I now operate my business almost full-time from my home in the country. You can read my personal story here.

A VA is much like an executive or administrative assistant in an office environment, however, VAs are usually self-employed and very technically savvy.  They’re freelance virtual assistant professionals who provide administrative, technical, or creative support to their clients remotely.

I operate my business by a high code of ethics and act as a trusted service provider or coach to my clients supporting their goals. I want to create a trusted long-term relationship with my clients and believe that their success is also my success.

We develop a collaborative partnership and I handle tasks that my client chooses to delegate to me.

Or it may be a one-time project that they need help with in meeting a deadline or filling a skill gap.

Our professional partnership includes rapport, trust, respect, and delegation. One thing I like about being a VA is that I can choose who I want to work with, what skills I want to offer, and what projects to work on.

What are virtual assistant services?

Some VAs offer general administrative services such as managing email and booking travel. Others offer more technical skills such as website support, online event management, or sales funnels.

I’ve narrowed down my services to online content support. That means I help my clients with written content such as blog posts, social media posts, email marketing, and transcribing audio content to written form. After all, they say ‘content is king.’

Content is how my clients grow their visibility and turn their readers into customers. However, my clients are very busy running their businesses and sometimes drop the ball on content or just don’t know how to leverage it. Content can help create stronger relationships, loyalty, and sales.

I provide this high-value service helping my clients stay visible to their prospects and customers. I consider my ideal client to be an author, a speaker, a coach, a trainer, and others who want to create an online presence for their business.

Why hire a virtual assistant?

  • Partnering with a VA will help reduce your stress and allow you to find more time to create success in your life and business.
  • You will lower operational costs because you’re only using a VA when you need one. Could even just an hour a day make a difference for you?
  • No or reduced overhead costs. VAs can serve you from anywhere!
  • A VA will give you the edge you need to stay competitive by taking on your routine tasks or filling those skill gaps and allowing you to focus on the bigger picture.

I’ve gotten very in tune with the online space in the last five years working with clients. I know what’s working and what’s not. There have been so many developments in this space it’s been hard to keep up at times. But one thing for sure… The new decade promises a time of growth for online businesses.

Here are online predictions…

  • The freelance industry will continue to grow. This includes the virtual assistant industry.
  • As technology develops, companies will rely more on freelancers. Most entrepreneurs and small businesses struggle with technology. It can be exhausting to try and do it all. Personalized VA services will remove the tech hassle and let you do what you do best.
  • Mobile marketing will continue to grow. Businesses would be smart to add mobile marketing to their strategies. I can help you find the perfect tool.
  • Online video marketing will continue to grow. If you haven’t added video to your marketing strategy, it’s worth considering now. I can write your video script to keep your audience interested.
  • Artificial intelligence is on the rise such as chatbots. Knowing how to set this up is key to a good customer experience. I can establish the perfect conversation design for your chatbot.
  • Social media marketing will become even more important. Using the right strategies is key as the platforms continue to change their methods and algorithms.  Creating attention-grabbing graphics and post content for your target market is what I do.
  • Email marketing continues to live. Knowing how to keep email relevant and exciting to your readers is a challenge. This is the year to explore everything the next generation of email can do. I can help you create email sequences that speak to your audience and make them think that you’re reading their minds.
